June 21 - The latest celebrity and entertainment headlines including designer Galliano will appear in court, Amy Winehouse scraps tour and Shakira visits Israel. Lindsay Claiborn reports.
Fashion designer John Galliano will be in court on Wednesday (June 21) over charges he hurled anti-Semitic insults at customers in a cafe in a series of outbursts that have wrecked a towering career. The 50 year old was fired as creative director for fashion empire Dior in March after a video surfaced online showing him, apparently inebriated, telling a woman he "loved Hitler" and that her parents might have been gassed in a Nazi death camp. If found guilty Galliano could face up to 22,000 euros ($31,500) in fines and a six-month prison sentence. British singer Amy Winehouse has canceled her entire tour after she was jeered by fans in Serbia recently for a poor performance. The 27 year old singer, who has struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past and checked out of a rehab clinic three weeks ago, had been due to perform a series of European dates including Athens on Wednesday and Bilbao on July 8. The tour was scheduled to wind up on August 4 in Portugal. Shakira was joined by Israel president Shimon Peres at a press conference on Tuesday to help promote education. The 34 year old singer, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), visited two schools in Jerusalem, one of which is a bilingual Israeli-Palestinian school which educates children in Hebrew and Arabic in a bid to foster co-existence.
