June 30 - Venezuelans hold emotional Catholic mass for their leader Hugo Chavez as rumours continue over the state of his health. Sophia Soo reports.
Hours after releasing this video to quell rumours of Hugo Chavez's health, the Venezuelan government called off a regional summit for next week. The cancellation of the meeting is a big blow for supporters of Chavez, who had hoped he would return to host the July 5 summit that also coincides with the nation's 200th anniversary of independence. In an emotional Catholic mass, hundreds of Venezuelans gather to pray for their leader's health on Wednesday. Women clutching photographs of President Chavez wept throughout the service. I hope he comes back soon but he needs to look after himself because we need him. We can't have another president." The video of Chavez chatting with Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro was released on Tuesday to quell rumours that he has prostate cancer. The leader has disappeared from the public eye, ever since leaving for Cuba on June 10 for a pelvic operation. Sophia Soo, Reuters.
