Afghan President Hamid Karzai attends a memorial service for his assassinated half-brother Ahmad Wali Karzai at the presidential mosque in Kabul. Officials from the Afghan government and foreign diplomats attended the ceremony to express their condolences. Ahmad Wali Karzai, one of the most powerful and controversial men in southern Afghanistan, was killed by a trusted bodyguard on Tuesday at his home in Kandahar. On Thursday, a suicide attacker killed a senior cleric and at least four other people at Karzai's funeral in Kandahar, though cabinet ministers and relatives of President Karzai escaped unscathed. The death of Ahmad Wali Karzai has created a power vacuum in Kandahar, that some fear could spark a greater wave of violence in an already volatile region. Nick Rowlands, Reuters.
