British Prime Minister David Cameron says during a trade visit to Nigeria that media must be strong but independently regulated to deal with 'abuses' such as phone hacking.
The escalating row over phone hacking and police links to the media has dogged the prime minister throughout his African trip, forcing him to cut his visit to Nigeria short.
He was to return to London on Tuesday afternoon following talks with President Goodluck Jonathan, rather than flying back overnight as planned.
