Aug. 8 - Police arrest 100 as looters turn their attention to South London. Lily Grimes reports.
A second night of chaos on the streets of London. Overnight Sunday looters took their chances in Brixton, in the south of the capital. Police say they arrested more than 100 people in what they called "copycat criminality" after rioting in Tottenham the night before. There, the violence erupted after a vigil for a 29-year-old man shot dead by police as they tried to arrest him on Thursday. Politicians and police blamed criminal thugs but residents say it's down to local tension and economic hardship. The British economy is in the doldrums with spending cuts and tax rises adding to the pain of high unemployment. With next year's Olympic Games on the horizon the Metropolitan Police are facing tough questions on their handling of the situation. Lily Grimes, Reuters
