EDIT CONTAINS 4:3 MATERIAL U.S. Vice President Joe Biden was received in Beijing by Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping (sea gin-ping) during a state visit Thursday. Biden inspected the Chinese honour guard during a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People. Later, the two held meetings to discuss improved bilateral ties between the U.S. and China. (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) CHINESE VICE PRESIDENT XI JINPING, SAYING: "We shoulder ever more important common responsibilities. It is the joint desire of the people of China and the United States, and elsewhere in the world to see enhanced cooperation between China and the United States. We would like to work with you to promote the development of relations between our two great nations." (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNITED STATES VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, SAYING: "I would presume to suggest that in the great sweep of your history, there's been more progress made between 1979 and 2011, than maybe anytime in your history. It's amazing." Upon arriving in Bejing Wednesday night, Biden attended a friendly basketball game between Georgetown University and a Chinese team. Biden is on a three country tour of east Asia. He also plans to visit Mongolia and Japan. Julie Noce, Reuters
