Amateur video out of Syria shows men being rounded up by Syrian forces in Homs and loaded into a truck. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters comes amid reports that three people were killed in Homs Wednesday. Nighttime footage, purportedly from Aleppo appears to show men who defected from the army addressing a crowd. They call for the end of President Bashar al-Assad's regime. Syrian authorities, which have barred most independent media from the country, say there have been no desertions from the military, More footage from Homs shows a funeral march. A local group, the Homs City Neighborhoods Union, says most telephone lines and Internet connections had been cut. The Arab League Secretary-General had been due to meet Assad Wednesday but that has now been changed to Saturday. The Arab League is calling for an to the bloodshed in Syria. Another video shows quiet streets in Homs with the sound of gunfire. The United Nations says 2,200 civilians have been killed in Syria since the uprising began in March. Footage from Aleppo shows another funeral march. Despite heavy security and the continued bloodshed, anti-Assad demonstrations have persisted across the country of 20 million. Activists say 20 people had been killed on Monday and Tuesday. Assad has promised change, including a multi-party parliamentary election by February. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters.
