Sept. 21 - Photographer Mario Testino honored by fashion's elite, including Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Cindy Martin reports.
Kate Moss is a fan, so is Sienna Miller. There's a reason why the worlds of fashion and celebrity love photographer Mario Testino. Miller says the Peruvian's unique ability to put models at ease brings out the best in both the photographer and subject. SOUNDBITE: Sienna Miller, saying (English): "He has this incredible ability to make you feel so special, but that's why he shoots such great photos, he just allows you to be yourself." Testino has captured some of the most famous faces in the world, turning them from mere mortals into global icons. Madonna was one - he took this photo for her "Ray of Light" album in 1998. He also took the official photos for Prince William and Catherine Middleton's engagement in 2010. The Peruvian was given the inaugural Moet and Chandon Etoile award, that recognises individuals who have had an outstanding contribution to the arts. The champagne brand's president Daniel Lalonde talked about why Testino was their top choice. SOUNDBITE: President of Champagne Brand Moet And Chandon Daniel Lalonde, saying (English): "We all got together to recognise someone who has made an important impact to the life of art and fashion, and we thought Mario would be just perfect." The man of the night, Testino talked about the secret to taking a fashion photographer. SOUNDBITE: Photographer Mario Testino, On Key To Taking A Fashion Photo, saying (English): "At the end of the day, a fashion photograph means believable, meaning when you believe the girl would wear it in real life. When it's a model putting on a dress and you think 'Oh they're putting a dress on a model', it isn't really a true fashion photograph. It's almost like a paparazzi photo of a really stylish woman, a really fashion photograph." Other guests attending the soiree included designers Christopher Bailey of Burberry and Matthew Williamson.
