Oct. 12 - U.S. prosecutors said a Syrian-born U.S. citizen has been arrested and charged in Virginia with spying on anti-Syrian protesters in the U.S. Sarah Irwin reports.
A Syrian-born man appears in a Virginia courthouse - charged with acting as an agent for the Syrian intelligence service. Mohamad Anas Haitham Soueid - a naturalized U.S. citizen - is accused of collecting video and audio recordings of people in the U.S. protesting against Syria and President Bashar al-Assad. Court documents said he is also accused of recruiting others to collect information about protesters and sending the information to the Syrian embassy in Washington and Damascus. The Syrian embassy denied he worked for the Syrian government - and said he never received payment, met with Assad or passed on information about U.S. protesters. Sarah Irwin, Reuters
