Jan. 30 - The death toll in Syria's uprising continues to rise as fighting and protests rage near the capital Damascus and around the country. Lindsey Parietti reports.
Gunshots crack through the air over Homs as fighting continues in Syria. This amateur video purportedly shows protests in the western city of Idlib against President Bashar al-Assad. Protesters are chanting anti government slogans and demanding the president leave the country. Fighting also raged near the capital Damascus Monday, with Syrian troops trying to push rebels out of several suburbs. The district of Saqba was held by rebels until the military advance. This video shows burnt out buildings and empty streets in the wake of fighting. Activists estimate clashes over the past few days have claimed dozens of lives. The death toll of the 10-month-old uprising continues to increase as the Arab League and the United Nations seek diplomatic solutions. Lindsey Parietti, Reuters
