May 3 - Activists claim security forces and other students with knives attacked a protest at an Aleppo university, killing four. Jessica Gray reports.
Gunshots ring out on a Syrian university campus in Aleppo. Amateur video that cannot be verified by Reuters shows students marching against the government at a rally early Thursday morning. Activists say the demonstration was later attacked by security forces, who fired into the crowd, as well as other students wielding knives. They claim four people were killed, with about 200 more arrested. However, the Syrian government refused to comment. The students are part of a 14-month-old uprising attempting to oust President Bashar al-Assad. U.N. monitors are currently in the country to uphold a ceasefire. But groups say the monitors have been unable to prevent further bloodshed between the two sides. Jessica Gray, Reuters
