July 22 - Violence rages across Syria amid reports of fierce fighting in Aleppo and ongoing shelling in Damascus. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Amateur video out of Syria shows Free Syrian army fighters driving through the streets of Aleppo. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters comes amid reports of fierce fighting around intelligence headquarters in the city. More footage purportedly from eastern Syria shows homes turned to rubble in Deir al-Zor. The sound of explosions can be heard as smoke rises over parts of the city. The bombardments in Damascus and Deir al-Zor are some of the fiercest yet showed President Bashar al-Assad's determination to avenge a bomb on Wednesday that killed four members of his high command. On Sunday a Syrian rebel group releases footage of what they say was Wednesday's attack.A man can be heard saying that the attack was carried out using explosives devices placed inside the building. Meanwhile rebels continue to celebrate after capturing another border crossing into Turkey. The tear up pictures of Assad. A Turkish border official confirmed that the crossing was in rebel hands.
