Oct. 25 - US Presidential nominees tap entertainment venues in latest campaign stops. Julie Noce reports.
U.S. President Barack Obama appeared on the late night talk show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He joked about his first debate performance. U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING: "'...the truth is that this is not a natural way of communicating. You're sitting next to somebody and having an extended argument with them like that and..." TONIGHT SHOW HOST JAY LENO: "Well, you're married." U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: "Well, I am, but the difference is that with Michelle I just concede every point." Afterward, Obama flew to Las Vegas-- the third stop of a 24 hour whirlwind campaign tour around the U.S. The event kicked off with a performance by pop star Katy Perry... who donned a dressed that looked like a voting ballot. During his speech, Obama seized on Nevada's early voting laws. (SOUNDBITE) (English) US PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING: "Right after this we're going to fly to Florida, Virginia, Ohio. I'm going to stop in Chicago to vote. I can't tell you who I"m voting for because its a secret. But Michelle told me she voted for me. See we can vote early in Illinois, just like you can vote early in Nevada. And I've come to Nevada to ask you for your vote." Meanwhile, on the other side of the swing state-- Republican nominee Mitt Romney was courting voters in Nevada's smaller sister city... Reno. He too made a plea for votes. (SOUNDBITE)(English) MITT ROMNEY REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE SAYING: "So the Obama campaign is slipping and shrinking. The President can't seem to find an agenda to help America's families. Our campaign is a growing movement across this country where people recognize we're going to build a better future for the American family, for every family in this great country. We're coming together with more power, more energy. I'm counting on you, you guys here, I need you to vote." Romney was 1 percentage point ahead of Obama in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll less than two weeks before the November 6 election.
