Jan. 9 - Amateur video reportedly shows battles raging across Syria as rebels try to take on airport in Idlib province and refugees seek food and warmth. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Rebel forces in Syria take aim at an airport in Idlib province. Rebels frequently attack airports and air bases in an attempt to neutralize President Bashar al-Assad's superior air power. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters, comes as violence rages across the country. In Homs, fires rage in burnt out streets. It's the country's third largest city and is a rebel stronghold. Men dig through the rubble in search of survivors, in a conflict that, the UN says, has already cost the lives of some 60,000 people. Hundreds of thousands are homeless, seeking shelter in refugee camps. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SYRIAN WOMAN LIVING IN THE CAMP, UM MOHAMED, SAYING: "People want to rest, but this is impossible. Bashar Al -Assad doesn't want to go. The whole world says Bashar is leaving, these are lies, stop lying to us! We want him to leave and he won't, so people of the world help us! The Syrian people are in a bad state." With temperatures dropping refugees do what they can to stay warm. The fear now is what they can do to eat.
