Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrives at an educational center on Wednesday - to mark national Teacher's Day. Syrian state television released video showing Assad at a ceremony recognizing students and teachers who have died in the country's two-year uprising. At least 70,000 people have been killed since a mainly peaceful protest movement against Assad's rule spiraled into conflict across Syria. Amateur video that could not be independently verified by Reuters purportedly showed intense fighting on Tuesday - as rebels attempted to destroy military vehicles near the town of Idlib. Another video reportedly showed rebel fighters shooting rockets outside the capital city of Damascus. The rebels and the Syrian government have accused each other of launching a chemical attack near the northern city of Aleppo. U.S. and European officials said there was no evidence to confirm an attack - but both sides in Syria's conflict have demanded an international inquiry.
