April 8 - Russian President Vladimir Putin warns that conflict on the Korean peninsula could cause greater devastation than the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. Jessica Gray reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that a nuclear conflict on the Korean Peninsula could make the Chernobyl nuclear disaster look like a fairy tale. During a visit to Germany on Monday, Putin called for calm and said Russia supports denuclearisation in the region. North Korea has announced that it will withdraw its workers from the Kaesong industrial park - its sole remaining major project with the South. As part of his European tour, Putin joined German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Hanover industrial fair. They also laid a wreath at a monument commemorating Soviet victims of the Nazi era. Merkel said she had expressed her concern over a recent raid on a German think tank's Moscow office.
