May 16 - Amateur video appears to show on-going shelling by government forces of Damascus suburbs and the rubble lined streets of Homs. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Government fighter jets above Damascus unleash a series of bombs on the capital city. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters appears to show jets targeting a Damascus suburb. While rebels hold large areas in the north and east of the country, President Bashar al-Assad's forces have waged a series of attacks in eastern Damascus and Homs in an effort to consolidate power. As world powers continue to grapple for a resolution -- the attacks are relentless. The streets of Homs offer a tour of rubble and destruction. Little has been left behind aside from pockmarked walls and barren streets. History is being rewritten at once-historic sites, in a conflict that activists say has already cost at least 90,000 lives.
