Tetsuo Hitomi was killed and his wife Mariko was badly wounded in an attack in the coastal city of Guayaquil. Police said they were shot by a group of up to eight people. Local media reports said the pair, who were on their honeymoon, were followed after getting into a taxi. Ecuador's president has promised a thorough investigation into the attack.
