May 23 - A video posted on a social media website purports to show chlorine gas floating in the street following an attack on the Syrian village of Kfar Zeita. Nathan Frandino reports.
Chaos on the streets of Syria, where new amateur video appears to show a chlorine gas attack. Residents of a village in the Hama province can be seen running from a green-yellow gas in the street. Reuters cannot independently verify the video, which was posted on a social media website. The video later shows a crowded emergency room where dozens of residents are struggling to breathe. Opposition activists have blamed President Bashar al-Assad for the attack. Damascus denies responsibility, instead blaming rebels. Chlorine is thousands of times less lethal than sarin, which was used in a deadly attack outside Damascus last year. But the use of chlorine as a weapon is still illegal.
