June 7 - Amateur video out of Syria appears to show fighting raging across the country days after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad won reelection. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Amateur video which can not be independently verified by Reuters appears to show a rebel tank taking aim at a military base in Deraa. The onslaught comes just days after Syrians went to the polls reelecting President Bashar al Assad by an overwhelming majority. More footage appears to show smoke rising from the base. The election in Syria won praise from Iran, Russia and the Lebanese based Hezbollah. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry described the vote as a "great big zero". It's done little to stop the violence. Footage out of Aleppo purports to show shells hitting a building housing government forces. In Damascus Province the familiar sight of smoke on the horizon in the wake of an airstrike. After more than three years of war, millions have fled the violence -- which has already killed more than 160,000 people.
