New video released by the U.S. Navy shows F/A-18 fighter jets landing on the USS George H. W. Bush in the Gulf. Rough cut. (No reporter narration)
The United States Department of Defense has released video showing F/A-18 Superhornets landing on the deck on the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf. The video was released just ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama's announcement that he had authorized U.S. airstrikes in Syria and more attacks in Iraq in an escalation of the campaign against Islamic State fighters. Last month, Obama authorized the U.S. Central Command to conduct targeted air strikes in Iraq. The new target list will include Islamic State's "leadership, logistical and operational capability," as well as an attempt to "deny it sanctuary and resources to plan, prepare and execute attacks," the White House said. U.S. military officials said it has conducted conducted a total of 154 air strikes across Iraq since operations began last month.
