Three videos uploaded to a social media website purport to show fighters from the Shuhada Al-Islam Brigade in a fierce fire-fight with Assad forces outside Damascus. Jennifer Davis reports.
Video uploaded to a social media website on Thursday shows just how fierce the fighting is in Syria. In the first clip a tank, said to belong to the Shuhada Al-Islam Brigade, can be seen driving through narrow damaged streets outside Damascus, past groups of people huddled on the sidewalk, before coming under heavy gunfire from what are said to be forces loyal to Syrian president Assad. Reuters cannot independently verify the videos, which were uploaded separately but by the same source to a social media website. In the second clip, a group of fighters said to be from the Shuhada Al-Islam Brigade run through damaged, smokey streets, seeking shelter from heavy gunfire and falling debris. And a third clip shows a group of fighters said to be from the Shuhada Al-Islam Brigade locked in a fierce fire-fight with what are said to be Assad forces. As the fighters attempt to climb a ladder, one appears to be wounded, as he falls back down the ladder and is caught by other fighters. Now in its fourth year, the Syrian civil war shows no sign of resolution.
