Amateur video from the Israel-Lebanon border. The immediate aftermath of a Hezbollah missile attack on an Israeli convoy. Two Israeli soldiers were killed in the attack and seven more wounded. A Spanish UN peacekeeper was also killed when Israel responded with airstrikes and artillery fire. As the wreckage was removed, Israel told the U.N Security Council it will take all necessary action to defend itself. The attack was the biggest escalation in hostilities between Israel and Islamist Hezbollah since the war of 2006 and raises the threat of another full-blown conflict between the long time enemies. A former Israeli Brigade Commander says Hezbollah must back down or face the consequences. SOUNDBITE: (English) FORMER ISRAELI BRIGADE COMMANDER OF THE EASTERN FRONT IN SOUTH LEBANON "There is no interest from the Israeli side and the Lebanese side to escalate the situation and have a third Lebanese war but there is no question that in those circumstances Israel must retaliate and respond." Hezbollah's attack appears to be retaliation for an Israeli airstrike in Syria on January 18 that killed several members of Iran-backed Hezbollah as well as an Iranian general. Hezbollah said in a communiqué that Wednesday's attack was "statement number one," suggesting further response is possible.
