From cats large and small under the Big Top in Lebanon, to pups competing for Best in Show in New York -- animals in the news around the globe. Gavino Garay reports.
Tough competition at the 2015 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show -- as hopes run high for the coveted Best in Show title. With 192 breeds contending -- paws come in all shapes and sizes -- but the dreams are universal. (SOUNDBITE) (English) NANCY LONAS, OWNER OF G MAN, A YORKIE WHOSE GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER IS THE ONLY YORKIE TO EVER WIN BEST IN SHOW AT WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW, SAYING: "I'm not allowed to lead him around the rink, he leads me around. But no, we're just doing it for fun...but it would be a dream come true." And it's not just about looks. The show which runs from February 16th to 17th includes a show of agility. And it's not all about show dogs -- mixed breeds also get their chance to be top dog. It certainly is a doggie dog world as the competition heats up for animals elsewhere.. like in In Abu Dhabi, where these camels are preparing to compete for who is the fairest of them all. The two week festival offers races and of course... the beauty contest. Under the Big Top in Lebanon, never mind the Big Cats -- it's their domestic cousins stealing the show. Not only are they showing how they can play well with others -- but kitty antics are also on full display. And in Brazil, Who let the dogs out? Rio's Carnival. Some of the canines just can't wait to get their party on. Others are just there for the ride. And of course some look like they would rather just sit the festivities out -- perhaps dreaming of Westminister and a best in show title.
