Bogota's International Book Fair honours legendary writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Sharon Reich reports.
A fitting tribute to a literary great. Bogota's International Book Fair kicks off with a special commemoration by President Juan Manuel Santos for its own Nobel laureate, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. SOUNDBITE: Colomobian President, Juan Manuel Santos, saying (Spanish): "Twelve months after his passing, we remember him with passion and tenderness. Today, without him, we complete our first year of solitude. Now, as president in charge, barely in charge of Macondo, I declare the 28th International Book Fair of Bogota open." Garcia Marquez's best known works "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and "Love in the Time of Cholera" are still popular reads today. The 87-year-old writer died last year after battling pneumonia.
