Nigeria's president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, receives handover notes from Goodluck Jonathan ahead of his inauguration. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: At Nigeria's Aso Villa, president-elect Muhammadu Buhari received the official handover notes from outgoing president Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday . The document, which was wrapped in a green ribbon, is a compilation of the outgoing government's administration notes. Regional governors and government dignitaries were in attendance to witness the hand over. Buhari was elected to the presidency at the end of March, becoming the first Nigerian to oust a sitting president through the ballot box. Jonathan's People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been in charge since the end of army rule in 1999 but had been losing popularity due to a string of corruption scandals and the rise of Boko Haram's Islamist insurgency in the northeast. Buhari is to be officially sworn into office on Friday (May 29) at a ceremony at Eagle Square in the Nigerian capital. Many Nigerians are optimistic that Buhari and his new government will be able to tackle the many challenges facing the country.
