A giant torta becomes the biggest sandwich ever made in Latin America, but fails to set a new world record. Sharon Reich reports.
Chefs joined forces in Mexico City to create a 213 foot long monster sandwich - making it the biggest sandwich ever made in Latin America. The torta is crafted from thousands of pieces of bread, lettuce, onion and tomato. Mixed with mayonnaise, mustard and spicy sauces, each section of the giant sandwich takes on a flavor of its own. Local government officials put together the sandwich competition in hopes of giving businesses that specialize in the torta an economic boost. While it is super-sized, the sandwich didn't quite make it into the big league of sandwiches. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, at 2,411 feet long, Lebanon holds the record for the longest sandwich ever.
