REUTERS IS UNABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY THE AUTHENTICITY, CONTENT*** Sources say THIS secret meeting between Hollywood star Sean Penn and the world's most wanted drug lord -- Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman -- helped Mexico's government re-capture the kingpin Friday. The October 2015 meeting is now at the center of a published Rolling Stone interview with El Chapo -- written by Penn after the two met at the Mexican drug boss's jungle hideout. The encounter came about after Guzman said he was interested in making a movie of his life after getting inundated with requests from U.S. film studios, according to the article. In it, Penn says he was sure the Mexican government and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was tracking him. Senior Mexican government sources say they were indeed aware of the October meeting and monitored his movements... which ultimately let to Guzman's capture. Penn's rare access to Guzman was assisted by Mexican actress Kate del Castillo... some six months after Guzman escaped prison. Now that 'El Chapo' is back in prison, some Mexicans think the secret meeting shows the close ties between organized crime and mass media. Mexico's government says it wants to extradite Guzman to the U.S. as soon as possible.
