The top elected Republican, House Speaker Paul Ryan, endorses Donald Trump in the race for the presidency, a step toward unifying party loyalists behind the presumptive Republican nominee. Jillian Kitchener reports.
The decision didn't come quickly... but top elected Republican, Paul Ryan, has now endorsed Donald Trump in his bid for the presidency. The House of Representatives speaker announced his support for Trump in a column for a Wisconsin newspaper, Thursday... which surfaced as Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton lambasted Trump on his foreign policy credentials. Ryan has expressed concern for Trump's rhetoric and positions on trade and immigration. In the paper Ryan wrote: "It's no secret that he and I have our differences... But the reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement." Ryan has repeatedly said his decision would be based on unifying the Republican party. With his support, more reluctant Republicans may now get behind the billionaire businessman.
