Police say a gunman killed his estranged wife in Minnesota and then drove to UCLA, killing himself and a professor, while in Fremont, California a suspected gunman dies in a house fire after refusing to negotiate with officers. Jillian Kitchener reports.
Just a few feet from his daughter's killer, Van Terry says he lost control: (SOUNDBITE) VAN TERRY, SAYING: (OVERLAID WITH COURTROOM VIDEO) "I don't know if I thought about leaping, or if I thought about what have you, I just know I wanted him." Serial killer Michael Madison was sentenced to death in a Cleveland court, for murdering three women and keeping their bodies wrapped in plastic as trophies. Van Terry's daughter was one of those women. A lockdown at the UCLA campus this week... after police say former graduate Mainak Sarkar is suspected of fatally shooting a professor -- and then himself. They believe he also killed his estranged wife at her Minnesota home. That's before the gunman got in his car and drove across the country -- police say, to act on his "kill list." An armed standoff in Fremont, California led to THIS. Police say a man had barricaded himself inside, refusing to negotiate with officers... and died in a closet. He's suspected of shooting two officers a day before. Officials say one victim was stable, but the other one was listed in critical condition.
