Demonstrators on small boats take to the canals of Venice for a vocal protest against the passage of cruise liners through their city. Mana Rabiee reports.
"No Big Ships". That's the message Venice residents are sending to city officials and the cruise ship industry. They're angry that the giant vessels are allowed to pass through the Italian city's iconic canals. Worried, along with environmentalists, that an increase in cruise ship traffic is damaging Venice's already fragile architecture and waterways. Venice is one of the world's top tourist destinations but protests against cruise ships have been on the rise in recent years. Legislation to address the issue was passed in 2013 but then overturned two years later. Authroties say the ships bring thousands of jobs to the city...and the very people who are demonstrating against them.
