At least 40 people are dead and others are still trapped after a platform collapsed at a power plant's cooling tower in eastern China. Julie Noce reports.
At least 40 people are dead and others are trapped after an accident at a power plant in eastern China, local media said. A platform that had been under construction at the plant's cooling tower collapsed at around 7 a.m. Thursday morning. Rescue workers were on the scene trying to find people who were still trapped. From mining disasters to factory fires, accidents are relatively common at industrial sites in China. Anger over lax standards is growing in the country. Last year some 170 people were killed during chemical blasts in the port city of Tianjin. President Xi Jingping has said authorities would learn lessons paid for with blood from that incident.
