Photographers on assignment inside the Ankara gallery snapped photos as Ambassador Andrei Karlov was riddled with bullets. Karlov was making remarks at the opening of an art gallery in the Turkish capital. His assailant waved the gun in the air for several moments shouting quote "Don't forget Aleppo" and "God is great." Security forces then killed the assassin. Karlov was rushed to a local hospital, but efforts to save him failed. Russian President Vladimir Putin called Karlov's killing a provocation. The Kremlin says it was aimed at derailing Moscow's attempts to find a solution for the Syria crisis.
