ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle ended their Hawaiian vacation by spending 10 minutes shaking hands with service members and their guests at Hilo International Airport on Sunday (January 1) before boarding Air Force One to return to Washington D.C. Air Force One is expected to land at Joint Base Andrews on January 2nd. While he was in Hawaii, Obama ordered the closure of two Russian compounds in New York and Maryland, saying the sites had been "used by Russian personnel for intelligence-related purposes." It was part of his response, including the expulsion of 35 suspected Russian spies, to what U.S. officials have called cyber interference by Moscow in the 2016 U.S. presidential election campaign. The Kremlin has denied the hacking allegations. President-elect Donald Trump has expressed continued skepticism over whether Russia was responsible for computer hacks of Democratic Party officials.
