Pope Francis meets Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during a visit to Cairo to mend ties with Islam. Rough cut (no reporter narration).
Pope Francis met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Friday (April 28) during a visit aimed at mending ties with Muslims. The visit comes just two weeks after deadly bombing attacks on Coptic Christians left 45 dead in Egypt. Due to security concerns, streets close to the Vatican embassy in Cairo and other sites which Francis will visit were blocked off and pedestrians were not allowed to linger. Pope Francis is expected to meet Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar -- the world's most influential figurehead of Sunni Islamic theology and learning -- and Pope Tawadros II, head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, who narrowly escaped one of the church bombings.
