Actor Jeffrey Tambor talks transgender issues as he accepts a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ben Gruber reports.
STORY: Jeffrey Tambor has solidified his place in Hollywood history - the actor is the latest celebrity to receive a star on the Walk of Fame. Tambor thanked his family and fellow cast members from the hit comedy show "Transparent" where he plays a retired transgender college professor. He gave special thanks to the show's creator. (SOUNDBITE) (English) JEFFREY TAMBOR, ACTOR, SAYING: "Jill Holloway, you changed my life. You gave me the role and and an opportunity of a life time and the responsibility of a lifetime. I can't think of a more important time to do our show than right now." (SOUNDBITE) (English) JEFFREY TAMBOR, ACTOR, SAYING: "I believe (in) laughter. I believe in satire. Because, in laughter, you expose and I can't think of a time when we need smart, brilliant comedy than right now. We need to laugh and we need to laugh smart, and that is our artistic weapon." Last month, U.S. president Donald Trump announced that transgender people will no longer be able to serve in the U.S. military. Tambor is best known for his roles on 'The Gary Shandling Show' and 'Arrested Development'.
