ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Riot police in Los Angeles arrested nine protesters who blocked traffic during a protest against the end of the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, local news reported. Protesters staged a sit in on bunk beds at an intersection near the UCLA campus. The protest was timed to coincide with the final day for young immigrants to renew their work permits under DACA. The program was authorized in 2012 by President Barack Obama to provide protection from deportation and the right to work legally for young people brought to the United States illegally by their parents. The Trump administration has ended the program and asked Congress to instead enact a law to protect DACA recipients.
