ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Amateur video taken from an aeroplane on Monday (October 9) shows a thick black smoke column caused by the California wildfire. Nyle Bayer was commuting from Sacramento to San Francisco when he saw the ash column rising through the clouds. Blazing wildfires fanned by strong winds swept through Santa Rosa, part of California's wine country on Monday, leaving at least 10 dead and thousands of destroyed buildings and homes in their wake. A local fire department spokesman said some 7,700 wildfires in California have burned about 780,000 acres state-wide as of Sunday (October 8) and have forced some 20,000 residents to flee the blazes.
