ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Paddles, the New Zealand prime minister's ginger cat, died after getting hit by a car on Tuesday (November 7) evening. Jacinda Ardern, the new leader of New Zealand, announced the death of the Prime Moggy on Wednesday (November 9). The cat was well-known for having polydactyl - a condition that gave her extra toes. Paddles was also famous for interrupting the prime minister's first phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump by mewing loudly, giving the feline a wide social media following under the "First Cat of NZ" twitter page. Internet users had flooded the page with tributes and messages under the hashtag "#paddles". Writing on Facebook, Ardern said, "to anyone who has ever lost a pet, you'll know how sad we feel. Paddles was much loved, and not just by us. Thanks for everyone's thoughts."
