Japan is home to the world’s largest market in ivory. The ivory is mainly used to carve out traditional seals used to stamp contracts and other documents as an alternate form for a signature. But officials in Japan have tightened restrictions on the country’s ivory trade in 2019 in the face of global criticism. Reuters correspondent Mayu Yoshida visits an old hanko shop in Tokyo to take a closer look.
